Every once in awhile, ask your child to teach you something…then really listen.

If possible, bring paper and take notes.  I don’t care if you feel silly.  Kids love it when adults are silly.  You’ll get over it.

If the lesson is a “hands-on” demonstration, participate and let them guide each step.

Let them pick the topic: something they are good at or enjoy, something they learned at school or on television….the lesson can be as simple or complex as they want it to be.

Listen to their lesson and try to not correct them, if possible.  You are the pupil!

Praise them afterwards and thank them for helping you to become smarter.

You have now made another deposit into their “self-worth account”.

You’ll thank me later.
