What does GKBA stand for?

Okay, okay, I know it isn’t the most catchy slogan.

But you may need to use it as a personal reminder from time to time… home, at work, at school, in your relationships…

What does it mean?  It means that if you have gaps in your knowledge, you might fill them with assumptions.  Which is not a good thing.  The worst part is, you might not even know you are doing it!

Often it is our assumptions that get us into trouble.

But we keep doing it, because it is faster and easier than actually sitting back and saying “Hmmmm.  There are some missing pieces here…..I don’t really know A,B, and C.  I don’t want to assume anything, because I might be wrong and go down the wrong path.  I will ask for clarification.”

This is where a lot of miscommunication happens.  If someone doesn’t give you all the details you need, you might fill in the gaps with your imagination.  Then you will act, thinking you have enough info to go on.

Maybe you will be correct and everything will turn out okay.

But maybe you will be wrong, and eventually you will be fighting about what you think you “heard”.

Just remember GKBA…..or if that doesn’t work, simply be honest with yourself if you have gaps in your knowledge.  Then make the effort to go and fill those gaps with real answers.

You just might be able to avoid a SNAFU.
